The Boxers had a rough day, it seems. At some point, the big big dog hurt his paw and is limping. Pain in the bum. Had to cut short our walk and lift big big dog in and out of the car, while little big dog dances a jig around us.
And husband is late, again. Shouldn't complain, I have a nice life, but there are some days when I could do with some moral support. So, because I'm hungry and bored, I thought this might be fun. Well, it amused me - a lot!
Somehow, I don't think the Boxers agree. What do you think?
| 'Do boys also wear pink?' |
| 'Not a bow on my head, again' |
I think they look lovely!
ReplyDeleteI do similar things to Badger too to keep myself amused, I'm sure they don't mind...
So long as we don't laugh to loud lol

Thank you! The Boxers love dressing up.
DeleteFingers crossed the big one is OK in the morning, or we'll be at the vet tomorrow.
Cuddles to Badger.

How is the big Boxer feeling today, hope he is better?

Big big dog is OK, thanks.
DeleteHe has osteochondritis dessicans so we do have this occasionally.
Very difficult to keep him from running like a mad thing, no brain no pain!
Cuddles to Badger ((()))
BW,
Lesley x.
Poor wee thing, Lots of (((((cuddles))))) in order..
ReplyDeleteDogs rarely show pain until it's quite bad so they don't appear weak to other dogs...
Is that what used to be called OCD of the elbow or growing pains, until it was found to be an actual condition?
Dawn xxx
Ah, may have been described as growing pains. It happens when the long bones of large breeds grow too quickly. We did try to discourage bonkers Boxer play when he was a puppy...

My first ever Rottweiler suffered badly with "Growing Pains" as a young adult, but it is so hard to keep some of the bigger breeds quite, when all the want to do is round around like mad things...
DeleteHer problem was finally diagnosed a few years later after many tests and xrays as OCD can't remember what it stood for now, that's why I asked..
Little tiny bits of bone were being shaved off in her elbows and when they got between the joints she was obviously very very lame.. The vet described how it hurt as having a huge stone in your shoe you couldn't get away from...
There is an operation for it, but it is very major and not always successful!! Had it done on one of my other dogs, Never Again!!!
Now Rottweilers have to have elbow tests before breeding to try to eliminate the problem... Not in the breed now so don't know how successful that has been on eradicating it in the breed..
Motto in the breed used to be "Anyone can own a Rottweiler, but you need skill and knowledge to raise it properly"
Assume it's the same for Boxers as some can be quite big and heavy...

That is very interesting. No elbow test for Boxers, this is more a general problem of large breeds, I think. Our vet is so good though, and we were referred for specialist investigation but as we manage it, he hasn't had a recurrence since 2009, until this week, and has never actually been lame from it.
DeleteWe saw the vet today and he was fine so quite reassured. The next step would have been MRIs, surgery, physio, rehab etc.
Boxer owners do need skill, that's for sure. I've got an interesting story to tell about Boxer breeding. It's quite a long one though, and taking some time to write. My little one suffers from aortic stenosis, a classic Boxer problem.
So good to have someone to 'chat' to, a real doggy person.
xx
Sorry to hear that about your small Boxer Lesley, must be a worry for you..
DeleteSounds like you are managing your big Boxers problem well..
Good vets are hard to come by, I still have to travel back to Haslemere, to take Badger to the vet I used to see when I lived there... After one I saw locally didn't not down what I told them about allergies and made him very ill!!!
I look forward to reading your story on Boxer Breeding...
Have you seen http://coldwetnose.blogspot.com/ it is very informative about all things dog related????

No worries, we knew what we were taking on, that's part of the story... :)
DeleteThanks, I do check coldwetnose from time to time.
